Which would be the better choice here? The dual core computer with higher processor speed, or the quad core computer with lower processor speed? Thanks. I plan on making music that is both sample-driven (strings and other orchestration, for example) as well as virtual instrument-intensive (using synth plug-ins). Some of them might be more popular than others, but all end up doing pretty much the same thing. Majority of them are being used by record producers and audio engineers all over the world. I am debating between getting a new, non-Retina dual core Macbook Pro 13 inch with a processor speed of 2.9 GHz and 8 gb memory, or a non-retina quad core 15 inch Macbook Pro (from circa 2012) with a processor speed of 2.2/2.3 GHz and 8/16 GB of memory. This list features the top 12 best music production software (DAW) that often dominate the market place. I plan on using Logic as well as other workstations like Ableton. Now I'd like to get a new Macbook Pro, with the intent of using it for music production. Freezing tracks ended up creating huge folders with gigs of data, something I'd like to avoid. Needless to say, when I hit a "threshold" number of tracks with virtual instruments and automation, I couldn't play back my recordings without freezing them. I used Logic Pro in the past on a Core 2 duo Macbook, with 2GB memory and a processor speed of 2.13 GHz. I know that this question has been asked before, but I wanted to explain my past experiences and what I was seeking.
